The Smithfield Public Market stood on the corner of Austin Avenue facing Rt. 44 in Greenville. It officially opened on September 30, 1904, and remained in operation until it burned in 1916. The market was associated with the Scituate Public Market in North Scituate, R. I.
Above the market was Wilkinson Hall where minstrel shows, and other entertainment, as well as town meetings were held.
