Spragueville, R. I. WWII Memorial

    The memorial is located at the intersection of Pleasant View Ave. at Swan Rd. in the Spragueville section of Smithfield, R. I.

Names with stars next to them died in service.

     Private Richard O. Austin was born December 8, 1919, and died in action in France on June 9, 1944.  He was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division which took part in the D-Day landing at Utah Beach on June 6, 1944.  He’s buried at Acotes Cemetery in Chepachet, R. I., Section K, Lot 599, map 00034.   His army service number was 31172184.   If anyone has any photos or additional information about Pvt. Austin please contact the Smithfield Historical Society.
